Friday 7th June 2013 - Robb Johnson

Robb Johnson

ROBB is one of the UK's finest songwriters. Much-covered, his songs feature in the repertoires of a wide variety of musicians, from folk legend ROY BAILEY to acclaimed cabaret diva BARB JUNGR. Robb writes up-to-date songs, from the powerful & provocative to the witty & clever - songs that make you listen. 'A modern-day Dostoyevsky' said Dirty Linen magazine, while The Daily Telegraph made his CD Gentle Men 'Folk Album Of 1998'. And 'Winter Turns To Spring' is Tony Benn's favourite song! Always a thorn in the fat, overfed underbelly of politics, having done with Thatcherism he still has plenty of targets! Robb is also capable of the most touching songs about love, family, war and peace & translates and performs the songs of Jaques Brel. His new acoustic 'folkie-friendly' album is out on April 1st, with a newly recorded 'Best Of' soon after.

Friday 14th June 2013 - Jez Lowe

Jez Lowe

JEZ must surely be THE embodiment of The Living Tradition, with a back catalogue of stunningly-good, catchy, perceptive, pertinent, perturbing, perfectly-formed songs that vividly document the age we live in and the profound changes taking place - not least in his Geordie homeland where the industry and coal mines have gone but the characters and traditions live on and evolve. If there was a Musical Laureate Jez surely would be it, with his unerring ability to capture a theme along with a healthy dose of subversive humour and cynicism to keep the Establishment worried. Jez's songs permeate the Folk scene and are probably more-covered than anyone else's. In fact, many assume his songs to be traditional! And they keep coming - even the new ones sound like they've always been there. Jez travels the world to huge acclaim, and tonight he's all yours.

Friday 21st June 2013 - Tattie Jam

Tattie Jam

TATTIE JAM are SEYLAN BAXTER (vocals, 5-string electric cello, percussion) and RUARIDH PRINGLE (vocals, guitar, banjo, didgeridoo, mandolin, percussion). Seylan is a graduate of Glasgow's Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama, where she now teaches. One of Scotland's best-known and most accomplished cellists, she collaborates with several of the country's foremost artists. Ruaridh is a fine singer and highly distinctive multi-instrumentalist as well as a prolific and prize-winning writer of both songs and traditional-style tunes. Tattie Jam offer a distinctive brew that includes dark ballads, protest songs, off-the wall ditties and tunes ranging from slow airs to kinetic jigs and reels. Much of their material has a playful or funky contemporary twist, which makes for great entertainment. A welcome return after their excellent debut in 2010.
