Friday 3rd May 2013 - Bruce Molsky

Bruce Molsky

BRUCE is an Appalachian fiddler par excellence and is, along with Andy Irvine and Donal Lunny, a member of Celtic folk mega-group MOZAIK (a modern-day version of PLANXTY). Not only that, he's equally good on guitar and banjo, and his playing and singing runs the whole gamut from Southern, Old -Timey, Scottish and even Canadian & Norwegian music, all played with innovation, emotion and phenomenal dexterity. Bruce is very much a part of the Folk fabric, with multiple collaborations, tutoring and extensive involvement in Celtic Connections and the Transatlantic Sessions. Solo he is a delight, and with his consummate musicianship and easy, laid-back Ry Cooder vocal style he'll have you rocking (gently) in your seats. A welcome return.

Friday 10th May 2013 - Jeana Leslie & Siobhan Miller with Aaron Jones

Jeana Leslie & Siobhan Miller with Aaron Jones

JEANA and SIOBHAN are two hugely talented lasses from Orkney and Edinburgh. Jeana plays fiddle, Hardanger fiddle and piano and also plays in top Irish band CARA. Siobhan sings, dances & has been winning competitions since the age of 13. Both are blessed with lovely, natural voices that blend beautifully and lend themselves equally well to traditional, contemporary and self-penned songs. They've won several awards including the BBC Young Folk Award in 2008, and they have a freshness in performance, personality, instrumental prowess and spot-on harmonies that give them an instantly recognisable style. They have performed extensively throughout the UK and Europe and have made two acclaimed albums. Tonight, as a special bonus, they are bringing the immense talents of AARON JONES on guitar & bouzouki - a man well-known to us.

Friday 17th May 2013 - Clive Gregson

Clive Gregson

One of the Crown Jewels of English songwriters and a guitarist to boot, in the 80s CLIVE fronted rock band ANY TROUBLE, then in the 90s formed a ground-breaking duo with CHRISTINE COLLISTER, toured regularly as part of RICHARD THOMPSON's band then with EDDIE READER and BOO HEWERDINE, and in 2005 with the NANCI GRIFFITH band. A songwriter with an acute ear for the minutae of life, his highly - original, catchy songs have been recorded far and wide. 2007 saw the long-awaited reunion of Any Trouble and a new album 'Life in Reverse'. Now based in Nashville, Clive is as busy as ever, writing, touring, collaborating (he has a new guitar trio with Andy Roberts & Mark Griffiths) and has a brand new album out, "Without Further Ado" and is 'delighted the way the tunes have worked out'. Expect a good airing of the album tonight!

Friday 24th May 2013 - James Hickman & Dan Cassidy

James Hickman & Dan Cassidy

Another Ram debut, fiddler DAN is from the USA while guitarist JAMES is from this side of the pond. Dan grew up in a musical family, taking up the violin at ten and spending his formative years absorbing a broad spectrum of musical styles including classical, jazz, bluegrass, country, blues and rock. In the 1980s he was introduced to the music of Shetland fiddler Aly Bain which sparked his keen interest in Celtic music. He's spent the last 15 years in Iceland as a successful session musician but visits the UK regularly to perform with his own Swing Quartet. He also appeared on several of the recordings of his late sister Eva. JAMES was raised on a diet of folk and bluegrass and has performed at sessions and folk clubs since the age of thirteen. After music college and a stint with Uiscedwr he met Dan whilst touring in Iceland and they just clicked. Together they add sparkle, shine, swing and scintillation to songs and tunes old and new. 'Nuff said, come see!

Friday 31st May 2013 - Elbow Jane

Elbow Jane

This band is brilliant! A five-piece from the Wirral comprising KEVIN BYRNE (guitar, keyboards, vocals), RICHARD WOODS (guitar, bouzouki, vocals), JOE TOPPING (guitar, mandolin, vocals, harmonica), CHRIS CHESTERS (bass guitar) & STEVE FINNEGAN (percussion), they are contemporary acoustic music at its best. By rights these young lads should be huge, like Mumford and Sons - and they probably will soon be if there is any justice in the world. They write and sing strong, highly catchy, melodic songs both thoughtful and upbeat, they harmonise wonderfully and their instrumental skills are top notch. They also throw in some choice covers in their own highly individual style and have a great line in banter. They'll make you laugh, they'll make you cry and they'll leave you wanting more. Last time they packed the place out, so come in good time!
