Friday 5th July 2013 - Quicksilver

Quicksilver

.... are HILARY SPENCER (ex 'Artisan') and GRANT BAYNHAM (ex 'That's Life'). Hilary is a powerful singer with three and a half octaves at her disposal and has been-there-done-that the world over. Grant is a seriously good folk and jazz guitarist, often as fast and furious as his patter. He sings too! Since meeting in 2001 they have establish themselves as a top act, with a mad mix of everything from ballads to blues, comedy, jazz and Grant's amazing originals, thrown at you with manic energy and humour. Totally brilliant!

Friday 12th July 2013 - Huw Williams & Maartin Allcock

Huw Williams & Maartin Allcock

Songwriter & guitarist HUW was a massive favourite at the Ram during the 90s in his duo with bass player Tony Williams (no relation). Their gigs were always memorable, laced with strong songs, off-the-wall humour and audience participation. One of the top UK folk acts, they supported Fairport on tour, supplied songs and Huw met Maartin. Huw & Tony called it a day in 2002, and since then Huw has concentrated on traditional Welsh music, clog dancing and radio work. MAARTIN is one of the finest multi-instrumentalists on the music scene. As well as long stints with Fairport and Jethro Tull, he has toured with dozens of top performers as their sideman of choice, including Robert Plant, Beth Nielsen Chapman, Beverley Craven, Steve Tilston and Blue Tapestry. He plays in so many bands he loses count, he's sessioned on over 200 albums and, being a proper musician who 'does the dots', he has transcribed countless songs into books for the great and good. Huw's songs are still widely covered so in 2011 he decided to tip his toe in the water again. The show includes great songs old and new, the stories behind them, tales of life on the road, laughter therapy and, er, sound checks (careful chaps).

Friday 19th July 2013 - Fran McGillivray & Mike Burke

Fran McGillivray & Mike Burke

Now Ram Regulars, FRAN & MIKE are at the core of the excellent blues/rock band SO LONG ANGEL. In 2004, after doing an impromptu acoustic spot as a duo at the Colne Blues Festival, they decided to investigate the acoustic scene again and loved it! Fran plays bass guitar while Mike provides ultra-tasteful and dexterous acoustic guitar, and tonight they will once again be playing a mix of soulful, dynamic and powerful folk/blues/jazz and haunting original songs, and songs from their excellent albums. Cool music for a hot night!

Friday 26th July 2013 - Coope, Boyes & Simpson

Coope, Boyes & Simpson

BARRY, JIM and LESTER present a radically different, modern face to English 'a cappella' singing, with 'Trad' songs reworked so they shine and strong, original songs with memorable tunes, soaring harmonies and sometimes radical words that strike a chord and make you listen. CBS sing it as they see it, be it the futility of war, industrial and rural decline or the glories of our traditions and history. Their last CD 'As If' gained rave reviews and airplay, and opening the ears of an entirely new audience who hadn't realised 'Folk' could be this good! 'What we sing is what we are', and we don't think there is a better way to end our season!
