Friday 8th June 2012 - Carmina

Carmina

PIPPA MARLAND (vocal, saxes, whistle) and ROB KING (guitar, mandola) create a sublime, sophisticated sound based around their strong, original material which draws in elements of traditional and contemporary Celtic music, jazz, soul and rock. Carmina are one of the most accessible yet innovative bands around, and generate a real feel-good factor full of melody and tasteful solos with Pippa's angelic voice soaring above. Tonight's line-up features the stellar talents of GEOFF CASTLE on keyboards, GINA GRIFFIN on fiddle and vocals, and PAUL BRADLEY on guitar and vocals. The end result is music that takes you to a higher place - celestial, luscious, cerebrally-uplifting & serotonin-enhancing though not necessarily non-addictive.

Friday 15th June 2012 - Paul Johnston

Paul Johnston

PAUL was once in a wee Scottish band called Rock Salt & Nails who burned brightly for a time. He was the crazy one who jumped about a lot. He was brought up in Gourock near Glasgow a musical household, a reluctant cellist in the school orchestra until Punk came along... Then a few years on he fell in with a crowd of Shetland expats and RS & N was born, rampaging through the 90s and the Scottish roots revival. World tours, albums and lives well lived followed, but now the band continues on a more occasional basis and Paul is establishing himself as a singer, songwriter and guitarist. His new album 'Raw' does what it says on the tin, songs balanced between economy & lyricism, soulful, heartfelt singing & dazzling guitar work. A Ram debut.
