Friday 6th July 2012 - Boo Howard and Dave Ellis

Boo Howard and Dave Ellis

DAVE started out in Folk clubs in the 70s, taking his cue from, and hanging out with, guitar greats like Jansch, Giltrap, and Renbourn. Early success and an album led to Old Grey Whistle Test, BBC 'In Concerts', gigs at The Marquee and supports to Rod Stewart. Then he met BOO, who has one of those great voices that subtly blends rock, folk, soul and jazz into her own unique style - and she plays a nifty bass and guitar too! In the 80s they went 'electric', became The Reactors, did Rock and Big Hair and attracted interest from top managers but ...! Since 1998 they have been happily acoustic again, and as ever will be delighting us with their great original songs (with lots from their new CD 'Stuff'), and musicianship of the highest order.

Friday 13th July 2012 - Walsh and Pound

Walsh and Pound

This amazing young duo gave us such a brilliant night in March 2011 we just had to have them back pronto! WILL is one of the most accomplished harmonica players in the world, with a mastery of a range of musical styles from French Canadian to New Orleans Jazz, English folk to traditional Turkish. An instinctive player, he improvises, plays by ear and simply astounds all who hear him. DAN is a true innovator too, changing the way the banjo is played, pushing its range to new limits and single-handedly dispelling the pariah status that still lingers in some quarters! These boys have no fear and nothing is beyond their combined talents. Be it folk, funk, bluegrass, jazz, rock, Arabic, the notes tumble forth in complete, melodious empathy. Above all they are hugely entertaining, with great songs, humour & audience rapport. Their trajectory is ever upwards; Will has even starred in a TV music project with producer Goldie, recorded with Martin Simpson and is working with song writer Guy Chambers (who co-wrote with Robbie Williams among many others)!

Friday 20th July 2012 - 'SONGS OF THE SEA' fundraising night in aid of the JUBILEE SAILING TRUST'S TALL SHIP 'TENACIOUS' APPEAL featuring various artists

'SONGS OF THE SEA' fundraising night in aid of the JUBILEE SAILING TRUST'S TALL SHIP 'TENACIOUS' APPEAL featuring various artists

Join us for a night of nautical niceties of the musical kind! Special guests LEE COLLINSON, LIZ SIMCOCK and STUART FORESTER and a host of Ram regulars including Bob Wood and Soiree are rum and ready to regale you with a selection of 'Songs of the Sea' new and old, wistful and bold. The aim is to raise some much-needed booty for the Jubilee Sailing Trust (JST) charity and its tall ship 'Tenacious'. The JST is a wonderful organisation that provides life changing tall ship sailing adventures for disabled and able-bodied crew working together. 'Tenacious' is British built (mostly by volunteers), and needs to pay off its ransom to those dastardly pirates at RBS. 'Sealegs Steve' will make sure there will be no slacking in the entertainment from our motley crew, so expect lashings of sauce and spice (maybe just the lashings), a raffle and a sale of ill-gotten gains, treasure & fancy goods. And to finish us off you shall bear witness to the Ram debut of LEE's new group 'THE SALTS'! Embark 8pm, sail 8.30 sharp. All welcome aboard, especially secret millionaires.

For more details, please have a look at Steve's Facebook page - you don't have to be signed up! www.facebook.com/StevePooleTenaciousAppeal and there is a YouTube video of Tenacious here youtu.be/040uYGWnDQw More information about the JST can be found at www.jst.org.uk

Really sorry, but due to the tightness of the already-packed programme, there won't be room for any extra floor spots.

Friday 27th July 2012 - Vin Garbutt

Vin Garbutt

A much-loved National Treasure, Teeside-born VIN is that rare thing - an entertainer of the highest order who can get a message across. A one-man wild-haired minstrel with a unique guitar and singing style and tin whistler extraordinaire, he is one of the best live performers around, spinning hilarious yarns that are so far-fetched you actually believe them! And the songs (when he finally gets to them) - of love, hope, social issues and daft things - stir, shake, tickle, enlighten, provoke, sadden and always hit the spot. Vin is a true star but with his feet very firmly on the ground - a living legend who is the true embodiment of the UK folk scene.

THE CLUB WILL BE CLOSED ALL OF AUGUST
