Friday 4th May 2007 - Sara Grey, Kieran Mearns & Ben Paley

Sara Grey, Kieran Mearns & Ben Paley

SARA's voice is powerful, sweet and compels you to listen. Originally from New England, she grew up steeped in traditional music and folklore and has a wide repertoire that takes in American, Scottish & Irish ballads backed up with exquisite 5-string banjo. KIERON is her son, so naturally there was an influence! He is a fine guitarist, singer and songwriter with a charming stage presence, who is rapidly becoming a major solo force. BEN graced our ears here recently in Expatriate Game and is a fiddler par excellence. In particular he has a penchant for Swedish folk tunes and has written an anthology which has become a standard work. With an awesome ability to turn his bow to any style, he is much in demand with as diverse a crew as DAMON ALBARN, THE SAW DOCTORS, THE LEVELLERS & MICHAEL NYMAN, as well as various dance bands.. All in all, a match made in heaven.

Friday 11th May 2007 - Bob Fox

Bob Fox

BOB is a true journeyman in the sense that he has probably played at every club and festival going. He is an entertainer first and foremost, with a rich bag of songs old and new, all delivered in his wonderful velvet voice and laced with Geordie wit and 'crack'. A great guitarist too, and with a new 'unplugged' solo album, 'The Blast', garnering rave reviews and airplay he is still a man with a spring in his step. Bob also sings with Geordie Folk Rockers 'The Hush' and as a duo with Billie Mitchell.

Friday 18th May 2007 - Carmina

Carmina

HOT NEWS! CARMINA have won the prestigious 2007 International Song of Peace award in Tipperary on 29th April with their song 'Blessed are the Broken', written by Pippa and Rob. This is fantastic news for one of our favourite bands, and if there is any justice in the world we will soon be hearing more of this song on the airwaves. Congratulations from all at the Ram.

Celestial, divine, sublime, luscious, cerebrally-uplifting, serotonin-enhancing....just a few terms that come to mind when trying to describe CARMINA. The core of the group is PIPPA MARLAND (Saxes, Whistle), ROB KING (Guitar, Mandola) & GEOFF CASTLE (Keyboards), joined tonight by BRIAN MORRISSEY on Banjo, bodhran, whistles & percussion. With a unique sound that blends Celtic-tinged folk and their own material (influenced by the likes of VAN MORRISON and JONI MITCHELL), PIPPA's angelic vocals and the soaring melodic, jazz-tinged solos on saxes, keyboard, whistle and guitar take you to a higher place. With a new Donal Lunny-produced CD 'Crescent City' just released you can chuck away the happy pills and treat yourself with some of this instead - and the side effects are much nicer!

Friday 25th May 2007 - Megson

Megson

STU HANNA and DEBBIE PALMER are a fresh young duo who are rapidly-rising stars on the festival, club & New Acoustic scene. They have a really original sound and write some great songs, from hauntingly-poignant to brashly up-tempo, all with beautiful harmonies and musicianship on guitar, mandola and whistle. They charmed us recently with a floorspot, and we're booking them while we can! If you like Seth Lakeman, Chris While and Cara Dillon you'll love 'em! Their new album 'Smoke of Home' is out soon and you can catch them on the Bob Harris show the next day!
