Friday 13th April 2007 - Phil Beer

Phil Beer

One of the finest multi-instrumentalists on the folk scene, PHIL has spread his talents far and wide, including the ALBION BAND, the ARIZONA SMOKE REVUE and being 50% of SHOW OF HANDS, with whom he has twice sold out the Royal Albert Hall (God help us if they all turn up here)! He has played on zillions of sessions including MIKE OLDFIELD, STEVE HARLEY & the ROLLING STONES, because he can play anything, from blistering electric rock, stomping jigs & reels on fiddle and mandolin, slide guitar and, of course, acoustic guitar. PHIL finally decided he wanted to tour solo and unplugged for once, so here he is - and he's looking forward to not unpacking the articulated truck he brought last time with his band.

Friday 20th April 2007 - Bruce Molsky

Bruce Molsky

BRUCE is an Appalachian fiddler par excellence and is, along with Andy Irvine and Donal Lunny, a member of Celtic folk mega-group MOZAIK (The noughties version of PLANXTY). Not only that, he's equally good on guitar and banjo, and his playing and singing runs the whole gamut from Southern, Old -Timey, Scottish and even Canadian & Norwegian music, all played with innovation, emotion and phenomenal dexterity. With an easy, laid-back-porch Ry Cooder vocal style, he'll have you rocking (gently) in your seats.

Friday 27th April 2007 - Michael Marra

Michael Marra

"It's Songwriting Jim, but not as we know it"! MICHAEL, as you'll know from previous visits, is a wonderfully eccentric, quirky, charismatic and liberating performer who creates songs encompassing the profound to the profane (and everything in between) that hit you like a Glasgow kiss. Uniquely bittersweet, kind-hearted songs with unexpected twists, backed up by easy-going jazzy piano and guitar and delivered with a 'dry charm and bedpan wit'. He's written well-known theatre, film and TV soundtracks, acted alongside Robert Carlyle and even co-written with ABBA's Bjorn Ulvaeus and had songs covered by Eddie Reader, Kiki Dee & Billy Connolly among many. With a smoke-seasoned voice that makes Lee Marvin sound like Aled Jones, Michael inhabits several planets more than the rest of us, so prepare for enlightenment - his sort!
