Friday 7th March 2014 - Tom McConville & Andy Watt

Tom McConville & Andy Watt

Geordie TOM is one of the UK's leading fiddle players, winning the BBC Folk Award in 2009 for Best Musician. A virtuoso performer in both the traditional and contemporary idioms, he is in great demand as a performer, session musician and teacher. Tom has created his own unique, instantly recognizable sound and his live performances are a rollercoaster of musical delights - rhythmic dance tunes, beautiful slow airs, great songs and choruses, all presented with his inimitable sense of humour and style. Tom is proud of his birthright and his latest CD title 'Tommy on Song' says it all! ANDY is a young and extremely talented guitarist and mandolinist who is a graduate of Newcastle University's Folk and Traditional Music course. He also works with Chris Newman and Alistair Anderson and his wide range of styles complements Tom's repertoire perfectly.

Friday 14th March 2014 - Bob Wood

Bob Wood

'Our' BOB, as we all know, is one of the finest acoustic finger-style guitarists around - a man of many tunings with some known only to himself. "One of the best who is not doing it for a living", says Benny Gallagher, with whom Bob has collaborated for many a year. He has quietly honed his ability as a warm, engaging solo singer and performer with an easy going sense of humour - never down too deep. Now released from his day job with the home office he's playing away more, gigging throughout these isles and as far afield as from Galway to Graceland. He'll never tire of the road but he'd go further if he had a boat! His playing and interpretations display rare sensitivity, lightness of touch and great technique - as fine as a beeswing. Bob's repertoire knows no frontiers, retaining firm links with the tradition and also including a splendid array of contemporary songs. Expect to hear material ranging from Robert Burns to Pete Morton, Archie Fisher to Hank Williams plus a smattering of pipe, harp and other tunes on guitar. But he takes most delight in the slip jigs and reels.

Tonight will be extra special as Bob will be showcasing songs from his long-awaited hot-off-the-press brand new CD 'After The Swithering'!

Friday 21st March 2014 - Pete Coe

Pete Coe

A vibrant performer who champions traditional English Folk in all its glories. Singer, songwriter, melodeon, banjo, dulcimer and bouzouki player, bandleader, broadcaster, teacher, step dancer, sallow-faced wit, raconteur and all-round good guy, Pete is a 'one man folk industry' who represents the backbone of the folk revival. He's been a key member of numerous significant outfits across three decades - a much-loved duo with Chris Coe, the wondrous dance outfit New Victory Band, Bandoggs and political trailblazers Red Shift. His richly varied solo work takes in songs from the Tradition, dance tunes and his own potent songs.

Friday 28th March 2014 - Martin Simpson

Martin Simpson

One of the UK's premier folk guitarists, multi award-winning megastar and a superb stylist, innovator & interpreter who has inspired 1000's of guitarists everywhere (and inspired 1000's more not to bother!). His versions of songs from artists as diverse as Bob Dylan, Randy Newman & Hank Williams have become definitive and much-imitated, and more recently his own song writing has come to the fore, gaining him a BBC Folk Award. In fact, Martin has been nominated an astounding 23 times in the eleven years of the BBC Radio 2 Folk Awards with 9 consecutive years as nominee for Musician of The Year, which he has won twice. 2008 saw 5 nominations for 'Prodigal Son' and 2 wins. This year he has been nominated in four categories - TWO for Best Album, Musician of the Year, and Best Group with Full English! He's brilliant but you know that, so make sure you get your ticket in good time from Bob and Maggie Wood (see contact page) because it'll sell out! Tickets available from 21st February.
