Friday 7th February 2014 - Wizz Jones

Wizz Jones

A National Treasure, there are few artists with more claim to being a 'musician's musician' than WIZZ. Inspired by Big Bill Broonzy, Rambling Jack Elliot, Alexis Korner and Ewan MacColl, he learned his craft from the likes of Davy Graham and Long John Baldry in the coffee bars of London's Soho during the late fifties, took Rod Stewart on a busking trip through Europe (teaching him harmonica) and was cited by John Renbourn and Eric Clapton as an important early influence. With his unique guitar style, dry humour, eclectic repertoire and 'A right hand worthy of Broonzy', Wizz remains in sparkling form and recently played a blinder at the tribute concert for the late Bert Jansch at the Royal Festival Hall.

Friday 14th February 2014 - Luke Jackson

Luke Jackson

LUKE is a rising 19 year old singer/songwriter from Kent. With a bold, show stopping voice that bursts with expression and emotion and with guitar skills to match, he is a confident, powerful, charismatic and captivating performer who demonstrates an astonishing maturity that belies his tender years. He has been making a big impression supporting such luminaries as Show of Hands, Paul Brady, Chris Wood, Steve Knightley and Boo Hewerdine and at major festivals. His first CD, More than Boys, produced by Martyn Joseph, has received glowing reviews and airplay on numerous radio stations. Its honest songs brilliantly conveys the free-wheeling freedom of youth - climbing trees with friends in Bakers Woods, scoring a Winning Goal, riding down the Big Hill on a bike with no brakes - and then changes tack with a totally unexpected insight into parents watching their children grow in How Does It Feel? Parents - surgically separate your offspring or any other available young person from their iGadgets and bring them along to witness a future star. If you're young and already 'get' Luke's amazing talent - bring your bored, cynical parents! "Luke sings with an extraordinarily rich voice and possesses a guitar technique astonishing for one so young", says Steve Knightley. Special!

Friday 21st February 2014 - Allan Taylor

Allan Taylor

ALLAN is the consummate performer, a writer of literary gracefulness who chronicles the realism of otherwise unsung heroes and uncharted lives. His songs are written from a lifetime of travelling; always the observer passing through, each song is a vignette of life. Like a story told over a drink in a bar, the characters come to life like people you know and places become as familiar as if you had been there. His songs have been recorded by more than a hundred other performers of various nationalities (there are more than sixty cover versions of 'It's Good to See You', in ten different languages), and every concert by him is an experience to remember. His brand new album 'All Is One' is up there with his best, mostly his own songs plus a couple by Derroll Adams and Tom Paxton. It's already bagged Radio Scotland's 'Album of the Week'! A class performer.

Friday 28th February 2014 - Liz Simcock Trio

Liz Simcock Trio

LIZ has played the club many times and is a Ram favourite. Her songs convey the warmth of her personality and depth and breadth of her thinking, full of melody and relevance to the things that affect us all. And now she has combined with another duo who are also Ram favourites in their own right - DAVE ELLIS and BOO HOWARD! Dave (who happens to be Liz's partner too) is a fantastic guitarist and banjo player and Boo plays bass. She's also a lovely singer. So, as Liz says, it's her dream backing band! Tonight she will be showcasing songs from her beautiful new album 'Friday Night Train Home', produced by Dave and featuring contributions from him & Boo. As ever, the songs are written from the heart, born of life's experiences in all their variety and delivered with her characteristic sincerity, wry humour and audience rapport. A night to warm the cockles!
