Friday 7th March 2008 - Tom McConville, Aaron Jones & Claire Mann

Tom McConville, Aaron Jones & Claire Mann

TOM is a very fine fiddle player from the North East ('My biggest influence', said SETH LAKEMAN in his Folk Award speech last year) and has played here so often that the last note is still ringing when he returns! Last time, he brought with him young AARON on bouzouki and guitar. He was a Scottish Instrumentalist of the Year in 2004 and has worked with the cream of Folk artists including Craobh Rua, Tabache and currently Old Blind Dogs, touring the USA, Canada, Australia and Europe and playing on countless sessions for other artists. Tyneside-born CLAIRE is a leading exponent of Irish flute, whistle, fiddle and song and has been performing since an early age, winning numerous All Ireland Championships. Truly a dream team!

Friday 28th March 2008 - Marjorie Thompson & Greg Franklin

Marjorie Thompson & Greg Franklin

Originally from New York, Marjorie plays exquisite, laid-back Country-Blues finger-style guitar in the style of the Rev. Gary Davis and Mississippi John Hurt and sings (mostly) self-penned songs with a heartfelt, soulful voice. Although she's played guitar for a long time, she has only recently become a serious touring performer, with a successful academic career as her day job. Only after attending a series of song-writing workshops run by her Hot Tuna heroes did her true vocation emerge - along with over 100 songs! Often autobiographical, they cover the spectrum of the human condition - bitter & sweet, witty, whimsical, prodding, sometimes dark - each one a story or vignette that'll catch you unawares. Tonight she brings along GREG to add some delicious bass guitar. Her new CD, Right By Me, has just been released to great acclaim.
