Friday 4th January 2013 - Slim Panatella And The Mellow Virginians

Slim Panatella And The Mellow Virginians

You can bet that anything involving the exquisite vocal tones and bass playing of HILARY JAMES and the amazing virtuosity on mandolin, guitar and violin of SIMON MAYOR is going to be pretty good. Throw in the multi-talented RICHARD COLLINS (thrice UK banjo champion, banjo joke specialist and flat-pick guitar wizz) to the mix and it's an aural orgy of hot Western Swing, ragtime, close-harmony Bluegrass & good-time American music. With dazzling musicianship, fab harmonies and a fine line in off-the-cuff wit, this is just the post-seasonal pick-me-up you need. 'An absolutely magnificent set that is so melody-rich you would honestly think it was going out of fashion', says 'Rock 'n' Reel' mag, and it's well worth your coming out of hibernation for. Please note that the Ram is a non-smoking venue - except for the stuff coming from their fingers!

Duck Baker And Helen Roche

DUCK is one of the finest finger-style guitarists of his generation. Growing up in Virginia he spent his teenage years playing in rock and blues bands before becoming interested in acoustic blues. His awesome repertoire takes in traditional Appalachian, Irish & Scottish tunes, blues, gospel, ragtime, swing, jazz and more. Duck has a joy of music in all of its forms and collaborates with a variety of other musicians including HELEN who he met in 2007. Raised in Wales she is a wonderful performer whose warm, versatile, heartfelt delights her audiences. Her CD 'Shake the Blossom Early' is a collection of Irish love songs which received glowing reviews all over. Tonight they'll perform traditional songs from Ireland, the UK and lots more.

Friday 18th January 2013 - Miranda Sykes and Rex Preston

Miranda Sykes and Rex Preston

MIRANDA is an exceptional upright bass player who seems to be permanently 'on the road' these days with Show Of Hands. Luckily she still finds time to do her own thing, and tonight will showcase her lovely singing and guitar talents too, aided by the fantastic mandolin playing of Rex, a fantastic, young award-winning mandolin player whose fluid style and amazing ability to improvise accentuates the songs beautifully. Moving effortlessly between genres as diverse as folk, jazz and rock their set features contemporary songs you'll know and love as well as their own material, and they will be showcasing material from their excellent self-titled debut album too. Their last gig was a highlight of 2011 so it's great to have them back!

Friday 25th January 2013 - The Bully Wee Band

The Bully Wee Band

Something of a tradition now, we are an established part of the Bully's celestial annual orbit. The BWB were huge in the 1970s and '80s with their blistering brand of Folk Rock and since their serendipitous reformation in 2004 they have had no trouble in proving that they are still a force to be reckoned with. The years have flown by but IAN CUTLER (violin), COLIN REECE (vocal, guitar), FERGUS FEELY (vocal, mandocello) & JIM YARDLEY (vocal, mandolin, whistles) sup from the fountain of eternal youth and are having just as much fun as ever. Lock up your daughters folks. On second thoughts, bring them along!
