Friday 1st February 2013 - State of the Union (Boo Hewerdine & Brooks WIlliams)

State of the Union (Boo Hewerdine & Brooks WIlliams)

Advance tickets available from the club on 4th January 2012 or by calling 0208 686 9421.

Individually, BOO HEWERDINE and BROOKS WILLIAMS are top drawer contemporary acts who regularly fill the Ram room, and when they discovered they were neighbours in Cambridge this union just had to happen! They combine their talents effortlessly to create a truly sublime sound, with top songs, harmonies, dead pan humour and the nifty guitar picking you'd expect. And unlike the other transatlantic 'special relationship' this is one of equals! Boo is a songwriting & production legend, with a musical CV of international collaborations and hits that stretch over two decades and many genres - The Bible, Eddi Reader, KD Lang, Natalie Imbruglia, Chris Difford, Heidi Talbot, Brian Kennedy and The Corrs, to name drop just a few! Brooks gives the impression of being bionically attached to his guitar for he is at one with it, moving, grooving and delivering deep, intense, joyous interpretations of everything from early blues, old standards & originals. Think Lowell George/James Taylor/ Eric Bibb/Ry Cooder, infuse with all things Roots, add ingredient 'X' and you have the unique Americana that is Brooks. Grab your tickets early for what promises to be an outstanding evening.

Friday 8th February 2013 - Megson

Megson

...are husband & wife duo STU & DEBBIE HANNA. Hugely popular at festivals and clubs they draw heavily on their Teesside heritage to create a unique brand of folk music. Their infectious sound is a mix of heavenly vocals, lush harmonies and driving, rhythmic guitar, mandola, banjo & whistle. Three times nominated in the BBC Radio 2 Folk Awards and double winners of the 2011 Spiral Earth Awards, they took a break from touring in 2011 as they welcomed their little girl Lola Wren into the world. Stu kept himself busy over this period, producing albums for the Cecil Sharp Project and other top artists, and now those broken nights have inspired 'When I Was A Lad', an album of old, familiar and new children's folk songs. Tonight they'll be playing songs from this album so bring the nippers - or grand nippers! There'll also be lots of songs from their luscious back catalogue ranging from the hauntingly-poignant to the brashly up-tempo. Great to have them back!

Friday 15th February 2013 - Carrivick Sisters

Carrivick Sisters

The Carrivick Sisters are one of the UK's top young bluegrass and folk acts. Twins LAURA and CHARLOTTE perform original songs and instrumentals along with a few carefully chosen covers on guitar, mandolin, fiddle, dobro and clawhammer banjo. South Devon born and bred, much of their original material is inspired by their local surroundings, history, folk lore and legends. Their engaging and highly-entertaining performances, with tight sibling vocal harmonies and multi-instrumental virtuosity, is building them an impressive fan base throughout the UK, Europe and beyond. The twins have released four CDs to much critical acclaim and radio airplay. They were finalists in the BBC Radio 2 Young Folk Awards in 2010 and were 'Duo of the Year' in the 2011 FATEA Awards. It's great to have them back after 2011's stunning gig here, and tonight they bring the bass playing talents of JOHN BREESE, who was here last year with the Coal Porters.

Friday 22nd February 2013 - Kieran Halpin with Yogi Jockusch

Kieran Halpin with Yogi Jockusch

In the last 33 years this Irish singer/songwriter has recorded 19 albums, a DVD and published 3 songbooks. Rightly regarded as one of the hardest working musicians with upwards of 160 gigs per year, he has just released his 20th CD - 'The Devil And His Dealing' - a collection of 11 new songs and featuring KIERAN's new touring partner YOGI on percussion. Kieran's songs have been covered by many artists including The Battlefield Band, Dolores Keane, Vin Garbutt, Flossie, Niamh Parsons and John Wright. Whilst his albums are always something to look forward, it is live on stage where Kieran truly leaves a mark. Powerful, passionate, intimate, intense and impossible to ignore, his songs marry intelligent and thought provoking lyrics with great melodies and his now trademark acoustic guitar sound. From Hamburg, Yogi is one of the most respected percussionists in Europe, playing on hundreds of recordings (including Kieran's) and many top theatrical and stage shows. Together they create a unique and amazing live sound that has to be seen to be believed!
