Friday 8th January 2010 - Boo Hewerdine

Boo Hewerdine

BOO is a Ram favourite. We were the club where he made his performing comeback nearly a decade ago, and he's been back regularly ever since! His wonderful album 'A Live One' was recorded at that very gig in the old venue, and afterwards he proclaimed himself "re-energised, a very happy man". He's toured and recorded to great acclaim ever since and this will be his first appearance at our new venue, just about a year after we moved here. For those who are new to Boo, he used to be the front man of 80s Rock group THE BIBLE and has had a parallel career as a top producer with the likes of EDDI READER and THE CORRS and a songwriter for many. Those gorgeous songs - melodic, memorable, thoughtful and highly-nickable - just keep coming, and tonight he will be showcasing material from his excellent new album 'God Bless the Pretty Things'. As ever, there will be a lot of warmth radiating from Boo to ward off the cold!

Friday 15th January 2010 - Carmina

Carmina

PIPPA MARLAND (vocal, saxes, whistle) and ROB KING (guitar, mandola) create a sublime, sophisticated sound based around their strong, original material which draws in elements of traditional and contemporary Celtic music, jazz, soul and rock. Ram favourites, Carmina are one of the most accessible yet innovative bands around, and generate a real feel-good factor full of melody and tasteful solos, with Pippa's angelic voice soaring above. Tonight's line-up features the stellar talents of GEOFF CASTLE on keyboards and new boy PAUL BRADLEY, a virtuoso guitarist who combines the fluency of George Benson and Gerry Donahue with his own distinctive style that blends beautifully into the overall sound. The end result is music that takes you to a higher place - a celestial, luscious, cerebrally-uplifting & serotonin-enhancing cure for the winter blues.

Friday 22nd January 2010 - Hilary James & Simon Mayor

Hilary James & Simon Mayor

SIMON is a wonderful musician on guitar, violin and of course the mandolin. He has released to great acclaim an astonishing range of music on this instrument, from folk to classical to bluegrass and beyond, and is recognised as the UK's top mandolinist. HILARY plays a double bass like you've never seen and has a sweet and pure voice that lends itself to any style from folk to jazzy blues. As ever, this will be a hugely-entertaining musical tour de force so expect anything from a Vivaldi concerto, Trad Folk, jazz standards, Celtic, ragtime, blues, a deadly accurate tribute to Jake Thackray and, of course, that song about the parrot! A welcome return.

Friday 29th January 2010 - Gigspanner featuring Peter Knight of Steeleye Span

Gigspanner featuring Peter Knight of Steeleye Span

Another first for the Ram, fiddle player PETER'S style extends well beyond the boundaries of traditional Folk and Folk/Rock and has been an inspiration to many. His 'other' band have just celebrated 40 years of business and pleasure with a mammoth tour but, never being one to sit back and relax, he formed Gigspanner a couple of years ago to explore more fully the many areas of music and song that interest him - folk, classical, jazz, blues, world and universe! Hailed by 'Songlines' Magazine as 'another milestone in folk's rebirth', Peter combines with two class musicians, ROGER FLACK (guitar) and Afro-percussionist VINCENT SALZFAAS (congas/djembe), to create a unique sound. Leave your pre-conceptions at the door and enjoy a captivating evening of music that combines emotional energy, brilliance and spontaneity.

Tickets available in advance AT THE CLUB ONLY to members (details here), and on the night (check Home page to confirm availability before you travel).
