Friday 4th January 2008 - Pete Morton

Pete Morton

A Punk in his youth, PETE is a passionate, intense performer with a driving guitar style & a great stage presence who, for the last couple of decades, has been busy putting back the 'F' in Folk. Carrying on the true tradition of an urban songwriter, he is always 'on the road' and has delivered a wealth of great songs that are an unruly mix of humour, politics, love and social comment. A Ram favourite, Pete sings from the heart and his show is dynamic and intense as well as fun! He seriously believes there are 'six billion eccentrics' in the world, and that particular song is rapidly becoming a signature tune for people everywhere. A new CD, 'Flying an Unknown Flag', has just been released and is one of the strongest to date. It features new songs like the highly acclaimed 'I'm in love with Emily Dickinson', as well as a new version of his most requested (and most-covered) song 'Another train'. Popular with choirs and artists around the world, that song has brought hope and encouragement to countless listeners over the years.

Friday 11th January 2008 - Carmina CD Launch

Carmina CD Launch

A very special night ahead as one of our favourite groups return to launch their new CD, 'My Crescent City'. It is their second collaboration with Irish music legend Donal Lunny, who produced the album in Dublin. Hailed as 'absolutely gorgeous - a masterpiece' (Frank Hennessey, BBC Wales Celtic Heartbeat), it is already receiving airplay on Radio 2 and in Ireland, Belgium, Australia, Canada and USA. Featuring the award-winning 'Blessed are the Broken' (Tipperary International Song of Peace 2007) there are six other originals, the traditional 'Lord Franklin' , Sinead O'Connor's 'Stretched on your Grave', and a Christmas number, 'December Song'. Along with PIPPA MARLAND and ROB KING, the CD features GEOFF CASTLE (keyboards), CHRIS HAIGH (fiddle), NIC FRANCE (drums, percussion), DAVID GOODIER (double bass), DIARMAID MOYNIHAN (Uilleann pipes, whistles), BRIAN MORRISSEY (bodhran, banjo, whistles), Irish sax maestro RICHIE BUCKLEY, PAUL WILLIAMSON (flugel horn, trumpet) and Donal on bouzouki, acoustic guitar, bodhran and backing vocals. He says of the CD "It's very, very sweet music, very tender and they're brilliant musicians".

Friday 18th January 2008 - Winter Wilson

Winter Wilson

A fine acoustic duo, KIP & DAVE hail from Lincolnshire and sing highly-original, quirky and sometimes traumatic songs concerning all aspects of the human condition and beyond. They joined forces in 1995 and have steadily built a reputation for their engaging live performances. Sharing lead vocals and guitars, they harmonise and blend beautifully in their distinctive folky/bluesy-tinged style.
Their latest CD, These Are The Things, contains a new batch of songs from Dave about love, Irish immigration and the Iraq war.

Friday 25th January 2008 - Little Johnny England

Formed in 1999, LJE is made up GARETH TURNER (melodeons), PJ WRIGHT (slide guitar, vocals), GUY FLETCHER (fiddle), MIRANDA SYKES (bass) and ex-Albion Band drummer TREVOR FOSTER. All have long-standing roots in the UK Folk tradition and the Rock scene. At the heart of their music is the traditional mix of squeeze box and fiddle balanced by a strong rhythm section, with slide guitar cutting the cake. The intoxicating combination of tunes and songs (mostly original) creates a unique Folk Rock sound that is drawn from English musical roots. A long-overdue return for a great band.
