Friday 13th April 2012 - Phil Beer

Phil Beer

ADVANCE NOTICE! Such being his popularity, we are selling tickets in advance for Phil's gig. Subject to availability, these are now on sale at 10GBP and 12GBP to members and non-members respectively. These may be bought either at the club on Friday nights between now and then or by ringing Bob & Maggie on 0208 686 9421. If possible please try to ring daytime or early evening.

Just a few days ago, PHIL will have performed at the Royal Albert Hall with Show of Hands in front of thousands of fans. That is quite some warm up gig! Phil is a big star who plays lots of instruments with dexterous ease, sings a great variety of songs and is funny with it. He's been on the telly, played the biggest gigs and yet he still comes and plays at homely little clubs like ours! Isn't life good?

Friday 20th April 2012 - The Toy Hearts

The Toy Hearts

A sparkingly-talented group centred around the talents of sisters HANNAH & SOPHIA JOHNSON, the Toy Hearts are one of the hottest acoustic acts around, blending folk, bluegrass, gypsy jazz, western swing, country, blues and Americana into their own uniquely potent brew. Hannah sings lead and plays mandolin, Sophia is a fantastic lead guitarist and their father Stewart backs them on banjo, dobro and steel guitar. Ten years of solid gigging has resulted in an exciting, energetic and dynamic live show packed with just the right amounts of sweetness, sass and style combined with original song writing, sweet sister harmonies, hard driving rhythms. They released their third album 'Femme Fatale' in 2011 and reckon it's their best so far, with many accolades, radio play, magazine features and a major session and interview with Whispering Bob Harris. With their highly accessible sound, instrumental prowess and personable stage presence they are going places! If you like Alison Krauss you'll love the Toy Hearts. 'One of my favourite bands' said Imelda May.

Friday 27th April 2012 - Edwina Hayes

Edwina Hayes

EDWINA has one of those voices that just stops you in your tracks. Pure and plaintive, it hangs in the air, expressing the emotion and meaning of the songs she writes and chooses. With her subtle guitar accompaniment it's just the two of them - a classic case of less is more. Whether she's singing one of her own songs or a choice cover by the likes of Richard Thompson the effect is always the same - you listen! Her second album, the exquisite 'Pour Me A Drink', accurately represents her live performances - stripped down, acoustic, sometimes-haunting with a mixture of songs of longing, regret, joy, despair and hope. The title song was covered by Nanci Griffith who calls her 'The sweetest voice in England'. She has opened shows for many stars like Jools Holland, KT Tunstall and Van Morrison, and her cover of Randy Newman's 'Feels Like Home' was featured in the Cameron Diaz film 'My Sister's Keeper' and has had over two million hits on You Tube. Her latest album 'Good Things Happen Over Coffee' is chock full of bewitching, lovelorn, melodic songs.
