Friday 4th November 2011 - Peter Knight's Gigspanner

Peter Knight's Gigspanner

PETER plays fiddle in a rather well known band called Steeleye Span but his style extends well beyond the boundaries of traditional Folk and Folk/Rock. He formed Gigspanner a few years ago to explore more fully the many areas of music and song that interest him - folk, classical, jazz, blues, world and more. We were honoured to host the group in January 2010 so it's great to have them back. Peter combines with two excellent musicians, ROGER FLACK (guitar) and VINCENT SALZFAAS (African percussion), to create a unique sound. Another chance to enjoy a superb evening of music that combines emotional energy, spontaneity & beauty."Music of intelligently crafted brilliance", said 'Songlines' magazine.

Friday 11th November 2011 - Dan Cassidy & James Hickman

Dan Cassidy & James Hickman

Another Ram debut, fiddler DAN is from the USA while guitarist JAMES is from this side of the pond. Dan grew up in a musical family, taking up the violin at ten and spending his formative years absorbing a broad spectrum of musical styles including classical, jazz, bluegrass, country, blues and rock. In the 1980s he was introduced to the music of Shetland fiddler Aly Bain which sparked his keen interest in Celtic music. He's spent the last 15 years in Iceland as a successful session musician but visits the UK regularly to perform with his own Swing Quartet. He also appeared on several of the recordings of his late sister Eva. JAMES was raised on a diet of folk and bluegrass and has performed at sessions and folk clubs since the age of thirteen. After music college and a stint with Uiscedwr he met Dan whilst touring in Iceland and they just clicked. Together they add sparkle, shine, swing and scintillation to songs and tunes old and new. 'Nuff said, come see!

Friday 18th November 2011 - Dick Gaughan

Dick Gaughan

DICK has been at the cutting edge of Scottish music for over 3 decades. An exceptional guitarist, singer, songwriter, actor, musical director, composer, arranger & producer, he's played and sung with a Who's Who of the worlds of Celtic, Folk, Blues, Rock, Country and beyond - Scottish Opera, Billy Bragg, Emmylou Harris, Tom Paxton, The McGarrigles, Deacon Blue, Alex Campbell, The Dubliners & Loudon Wainwright III to name a small few. That's as well as stints with Boys of the Lough, Five Hand Reel and Clan Alba and in occasional duos with Aly Bain, Andy Irvine, Johnny Cunningham, Brian McNeill and Allan Taylor. A true Folk legend, Dick's work is always innovative and challenging. He has performed at probably every major Folk Festival throughout the world several times but tonight he's all ours again.

Friday 25th November 2011 - Niamh ni Charra & Matt Griffin

Niamh ni Charra & Matt Griffin

From Killarney, NIAMH started playing music at the age of 4 and is a superb multi award-winning fiddle and concertina player. She toured for 8 years as a soloist with Riverdance, performing in over 2500 shows on land and sea, delighting audiences with her fiery fiddling, fancy footwork and dazzling smiles. Her debut album 'On Da Thaobh / From Both Sides' in 2007 received much critical acclaim, as did her second, last year's 'Sugach Samh / Happy Out'. MATT is a multi-instrumentalist based in Dingle, Co Kerry. Born in London of Irish parents, he grew up playing and learning music within the capital's vibrant traditional Irish music scene. In 2001 he won a scholarship at the Purcell school of music and reached the BBC Young Folk Award final with the group MISE. Now based in Ireland his abilities as an accompanist are in great demand with a variety of artists including The Chieftains. We promise an evening of top notch, joyous, exciting & dynamic instrumental music from Ireland and beyond. Let them transport you to John Benny's pub in Dingle (their favourite haunt) where the craic will engulf you! Love Riverdance? Irish expat missing the music? Just come on in, you're welcome!
