Friday 6th November 2009 - Chris & Kellie While

Chris & Kellie While

Those who have seen mother and daughter separately in their myriad guises (Albion Band, While & Matthews, E2K and solo) will know that they are both blessed with seriously good vocal talents, but together the result is truly spine-tingling! With harmonies to die for, gorgeous songs from the best contemporary writers (including themselves) and guitar accompaniments that are elegant and perfect, this will be as good as it gets! Says Chris "There is a certain telepathy between us, and sometimes when we sing I lose identity and forget which voice is mine". Their last album 'Too Few Songs' is sublime showcase of their talents.

Friday 13th November 2009 - Fraser Nimmo

Fraser Nimmo

An auld friend of the club who benefits from a unique arrangement - we sing his songs and occasionally he gets invited here to do them himself! Fraser sings of 'love, hate, loss, injustice, fear, bewilderment and Scotland', some songs his own, some traditional. The songs cover the whole gamut of human experience and are delivered with flair, compassion and serious musical ability, all delivered with wit and style on his trusty Martin guitar and beat-up banjo. Fraser keeps the finest musical company, touring with the likes of Fairport and recording with their musicians. A convivial evening in store, and may he 'never change his style'.

Friday 20th November 2009 - annA rydeR

annA rydeR

annA is a highly original singer, songwriter and talented multi-instrumentalist who will delight and intoxicate. A Cropredy Festival favourite, her brilliant album 'Paper Girl' features the who's who of Folk Rock. Her quirky, personal yet touching material and her wicked outlook on life, together with her accomplished instrumental skills (guitar, piano, accordion, brass), ensures she remains an interesting and original musician, writer, jammer and singer. annA is a one-off eccentric with a finger in many a musical pie. Put Eddi Reader through a spell checker, stir in some Suzanne Vega, reverse the polarity and this is what you get!

Friday 27th November 2009 - John Tams & Barry Coope

John Tams & Barry Coope

JOHN has had a brilliant few years, with awards cascading down including two Sony Radio Academy Awards for his immense achievements with The Radio Ballads, and BBC Folk Awards for Singer, Album, Traditional Song and Original Song Of The Year. His track record is awesome, from the Albion Band to the Home Service, his music for theatre (most recently the incredible 'War Horse') right up to his acclaimed new CD and of course the Radio Ballads. He's even found time for TV stardom (Rifleman Daniel Hagman in the Sharpe series). You'll know from Coope, Boyes & Simpson that BARRY is one of the best harmony singers, but less well known are his talents on keyboard which underpin this wonderful liaison, earning them 'Best Duo' in last year's Folk Awards. As ever, an evening of glorious songs from the home front that burn with emotion.
