Friday 7th January 2011 - New Rope String Band

New Rope String Band

Tonight we aim to ease you gently into the New Year and lift the post-seasonal blues with an evening of musical slapstick, clowning and innocent, well-meant maniac minstrelling! Carrying on where Keith Donnelly left off, PETE CHALLONER, TIM DALLING and JOCK TYLDESLEY combine superb musicianship with side-splitting comic genius and sheer inspired silliness, spliced with beautiful acoustic music from various world traditions. Their uproarious performances delight audiences everywhere, from tiny village halls to major festival stages, with a mix of new and long-time favourite routines ranging from musical tennis to deconstructed nursery rhymes, Python-esque absurdism and even pyrotechnics. Brilliantly funny!

Friday 14th January 2011 - Archie Fisher

Archie Fisher

Scotland's foremost troubadour, ARCHIE is a singer, songwriter, guitarist, horseman, radio host and 'Keeper of the Tradition'. The classic songs he has written, like Bill Hosie, The Last Trawl, All That You Ask and Dark Eyed Molly are sung all over. He continues to write and tour, delivering songs old and new with a low voice as rich and aromatic as the finest Single Malt. Awarded an MBE for services to Folk music and inducted into the Scottish Traditional Hall of Fame in 2006, he's a legend!

Friday 21st January 2011 - Miranda Sykes & Rex Preston

Miranda Sykes & Rex Preston

MIRANDA is no stranger to the Ram, having been here previously with PHIL BEER and ROBB JOHNSON. A wonderful upright bass player who seems to be permanently 'on the road' these days with SHOW OF HANDS, she still manages to fit in a solo career, and tonight will showcase her lovely singing and guitar talents too. A 'musical chameleon' Miranda moves effortlessly between genres as diverse as folk, jazz and rock and her recent critically acclaimed solo album 'Bliss' features a strong set of contemporary and narrative songs. She has recently joined up with REX, a fantastic, young award-winning mandolin player and member of ace 5-piece group THE SCOVILLE UNITS, whose fluid style augments the songs beautifully.

Friday 28th January 2011 - The Bully Wee Band

The Bully Wee Band

The BWB were huge in the 1970s and '80s with their blistering brand of Folk Rock. Since their serendipitous reformation in 2004, they have had no trouble in proving that they are still a force to be reckoned with, touring every January since. In fact, they were the first Official Guests at our new venue a couple of years ago! The years have flown by but IAN CUTLER (violin), COLIN REECE (vocal, guitar), FERGUS FEELY (vocal, mandocello) & JIM YARDLEY (vocal, mandolin, whistles) are having as much fun as ever.
