Friday 5th September 2008 - Benny Gallagher

Benny Gallagher

Blessed are we to have this man as a friend of the club and to be able to cajole him into doing the occasional acoustic gig. Right from his early days at the Beatles' Apple label (where he teamed up with Graham Lyle and wrote hits for Mary Hopkin among others) the sheer quality of the songs has shone through; When I'm Dead and Gone, Breakaway, Stay Young, I Wanna Stay With You, Heart in New York, Heart on My Sleeve were huge hits for Art Garfunkel, Garth Brooks, Bryan Ferry and many more. He has worked with everyone from Paul McCartney to Eric Clapton, and he continues to write, tour (recently with 10CC) and foster new talent through his work at LIPA. "Soundtrack of your life" is an overdone cliche but turn a radio on and it won't be long before you hear one of his songs - and the world is a better place for them.

Friday 12th September 2008 - Steve Tilston

Steve Tilston

He's back, and with a brand new CD, Ziggurat! It's taken 5 years but it is bursting with wonderful new songs - this time more personal and retrospective - and is one of his best. A Ram favourite, STEVE is a peerless song writer & guitarist in the true English tradition. Over the years the songs have burst forth like a perpetual fountain, digging deep into folklore, historical events, modern-day dilemmas and characters and encapsulating them into vignettes of melodic wonder. Songs about beat-up old trawlers, statesmen, gold-diggers, outlaws, thinkers, drinkers, metaphorical banjos and naked highwaymen that linger in the memory. Songs that have been much-covered by his peers and proteges and will continue to be. 'Never a better born Englishman'

Friday 19th September 2008 - Carla Ulbrich

Carla Ulbrich

From South Carolina, CARLA is a Professional Musical Smart Alec, born of a chance hypothetical liaison between Tom Lehrer and Ruby Wax. She popped in like a whirlwind recently to do a spot and left us stunned! Her hilarious songs cover such socially relevant topics as dating for food, trying to communicate with a Klingon (a duet), and how rich she would be if she had the copyright on the F word (safe for kids - it's bleeped)! Much material comes from her status as a 'professional patient', having had a stroke en route to a gig and still playing! Recovery involved relearning guitar from scratch and the recording the apt CD Sick Humor. President of the Difficult Last Name Club, Carla is one seriously demented lady. Musical Viagra for the mind!

Friday 26th September 2008 - A.J. Clarke

A.J. Clarke

We welcome ANTHONY back for another evening of beautiful, wistful songs of love, life's journey, and the humour and madness of everyday situations which he dissects from real life into song with such precision. Belfast-born, he's been writing songs since the age of 9 and he sings them with genuine warmth and sincerity. The Troubles have inspired some of his most tender and poignant songs, like 'Irish Eyes' and 'Seven in Ireland'. An evening with Anthony is funny, challenging, entertaining and warm glow-inducing. One of the nicest guys on the scene he's like a mellower Kieran Halpin. Blue songs on a red guitar.
