Friday 1st September 2006 - Jim Malcolm

To kick off our new season, we welcome for the first time here one of Scotland's leading singers and songwriters in the traditional idiom. JIM has been frontman, guitarist & harmonica player with OLD BLIND DOGS, one of Scotland's most popular international folk groups, since 1999. He also enjoys a successful solo career, with four acclaimed solo CDs in the last five years which combine traditional and contemporary songs, classic covers and his own material. One of these, Neptune, was used in a TV documentary about the North Sea and has been widely covered since, resulting in him grabbing the prestigious 'Songwriter of the Year' gong at the Scots Trad Music Awards. A great live performer and a major talent.

Friday 8th September 2006 - Steve Tilston

For those few who don't already know, STEVE is a peerless songwriter & guitarist in the true English tradition. Go to virtually any club and you are likely to hear someone singing one of his songs, but tonight you'll hear loads of them! He is to Folk what the BAND'S Robbie Robertson and the KINKS' Ray Davies are to Rock, digging deep into folklore, historical events, modern-day dilemmas and characters and encapsulating them into vignettes of melodic wonder. Songs about beat-up old trawlers, statesmen, gold-diggers, outlaws, thinkers, drinkers or naked highwaymen that will linger long after. 'Never a better born Englishman'

Friday 15th September 2006 - The Demon Barbers

A vibrant, powerhouse band of the finest young English traditional musicians, assembled by and featuring DAMIEN BARBER on vocals, guitar & concertina. With him are BRYONY GRIFFITH (fiddle, vocals), WILL HAMPSON (melodeon, harmonica), LEE SYKES (bass) & BEN GRIFFITH (drums). Described as 'The Oyster Band meets Shooglenifty' they bring traditional song and dance bang up to date - living proof that the English Tradition is alive, well and evolving. Roll over Vaughan Williams!

Friday 22nd September 2006 - Roger Sutcliffe

ROGER is a bluesman of note who did a gig for us way back in 2001. He popped in a couple of months ago with his splendid, shiny National Steel guitar to do a spot, reminding us that he was well overdue a return. Roger makes the blues accessible to all, weaving folk and jazz into his repertoire. A veteran of many a festival, club and workshop, he plays a variety of styles and spins a fine yarn in the process. Our stage is his back porch, so come and rock with him. Gently.

Friday 29th September 2006 - Colum Sands

It is a rare treat to be able to welcome COLUM over from County Down, Northern Ireland. Like his equally wonderful brother TOMMY, he is usually busy touring the world and hosting his own radio show, but tonight he's exclusively ours. Colum has the rare gift of empathy that makes it seem you've been friends for ever. A great songwriter and performer whose songs can be sweet, sad or inspirational, sometimes giving you a gentle prod to think about things. And he has a tale or two to tell, with a twinkle in his eyes...
