Friday 1st July 2011 - Fran McGillivray & Mike Burke

Fran McGillivray & Mike Burke

FRAN & MIKE are at the core of the excellent blues/rock band SO LONG ANGEL, but in 2004, after doing an impromptu acoustic spot as a duo at the Colne Blues Festival, they decided to investigate the acoustic scene again. Fran plays bass guitar while Mike provides ultra-tasteful and dexterous flourishes on acoustic guitar. Tonight they will once again be playing a mix of soulful, dynamic and powerful folk/blues/jazz and haunting original songs, and showcasing their gorgeous new CD 'The Road That You Believe In'.

Friday 15th July 2011 - Kevin Dempsey

Kevin Dempsey

KEVIN has music in his soul. His multi-facetted career is testament to his talent as a guitarist, singer, songwriter and record producer. He is a master of many styles, from Folk to Funk, Jazz to Jive, Soul to Celtic and more. He has always been in high demand as a session player and accompanist with a whole raft of top acts. Mary Black, Whippersnapper, Percy Sledge, the Marvelettes, Uiscedwr, Dando Shaft and the Albion band to name but a few, and any number of jazz big bands, jazz-rock and Soul outfits. He just loves playing guitar. You may have seen him with virtuoso fiddler Joe Broughton on one of their frequent visits to the Ram, and clocked that not only does he have spell-binding technique he is extremely entertaining too, being a great singer and teller of some awful jokes! We've never had Kevin solo though, and his set draws from a range of songs and styles from traditional and contemporary Folk, jazz standards, instrumentals and stuff you don't expect!

Friday 22nd July 2011 - Martin Simpson

Martin Simpson

One of the UK's premier folk guitarists, multi award-winning megastar and a superb stylist, innovator & interpreter who has inspired 1000's of guitarists everywhere (and inspired 1000's more not to bother). His versions of songs from artists as diverse as Bob Dylan, Randy Newman & Hank Williams have become definitive and much-imitated, and more recently his own song writing has come to the fore, gaining him a BBC Folk Award for the song. In fact, Martin has been nominated an astounding 23 times in the eleven years of the BBC Radio 2 Folk Awards with 9 consecutive years as nominee for Musician of The Year, which he has won twice. 2008 saw 5 nominations for "Prodigal Son' and 2 wins, & in 2010 he had an unprecedented 6 nominations for his CD 'True Stories' and a win for Best Traditional Track. We think he deserves a gong, don't you?

Please note: Martin is always very popular, so we will be selling advance tickets AT THE CLUB ONLY from June 24th (Tyde night). If any tickets are left on the night we will announce it on the website. Thank you.

Friday 29th July 2011 - Reg Meuross

Reg Meuross

Throughout his career, guitarist and singer REG has played the role of musical straight man with fun outfits like the PANIC BROTHERS and HANK WANGFORD, but he has always had a parallel career as a major writer, performer and actor. His gently-rocking, melodic, country-tinged songs are never 'in your face' but seem to plant themselves in the mind. Reg has created his own form of 'Britannicana', finding inspiration in fragments of history and real lives as well as the usual subjects of love and loss. Live and on CD he keeps the finest company, with the likes of Who keyboardist RABBITT BUNDRICK, MIRANDA SYKES, PHIL BEER. His new CD 'All this longing' is arguably his most accomplished work so far.
