Friday 5th June 2009 - Dick Gaughan

Dick Gaughan

DICK has been at the cutting edge of Scottish music for over 3 decades. An exceptional guitarist, singer, songwriter, actor, musical director, composer, arranger & producer, he's played and sung with a Who's Who of the worlds of Celtic, Folk, Blues, Rock, Country and beyond - Scottish Opera, Billy Bragg, Emmylou Harris, Tom Paxton, The McGarrigles, Deacon Blue, Alex Campbell, The Dubliners & Loudon Wainwright III to name a small few. That's as well as stints with Boys of the Lough, Five Hand Reel and Clan Alba and in occasional duos with Aly Bain, Andy Irvine, Johnny Cunningham, Brian McNeill and Allan Taylor. Truly one of the hardest-working performers around, Dick's work is always innovative and challenging. He has performed at probably every major Folk Festival throughout the world several times but tonight he's all ours again.

Friday 12th June 2009 - Archie Fisher MBE

Archie Fisher MBE

A legendary performer and quite possibly Scotland's Patron Saint of Folk, ARCHIE has recently been inducted into the Scots Traditional Music Hall of Fame and in 2007 received an MBE for services to traditional music. Singer, songwriter, guitarist, horseman, radio host and 'Keeper of the Tradition', his own classic songs like Bill Hosie, The Last Trawl, All That You Ask, I Wandered By A Brookside and Dark Eyed Molly are sung all over - songs that drip with expression and tug at the heart strings. Archie delivers these and old songs in the vernacular made new, with a low voice as rich and aromatic as the finest Single Malt. And he has a new CD out, Windward Away, which has already achieved acclaim on both sides of the Atlantic.

Friday 19th June 2009 - Colum Sands

Colum Sands

From County Down, Northern Ireland it is a pleasure to welcome back COLUM. He has that rare gift of empathy which makes it seem you've been friends for ever, filling the room with warmth, humour and good will. He is a great songwriter and performer whose songs can be sweet, sad or inspirational, sometimes giving you a gentle prod to think about things. Like the rest of his Sands siblings, Colum is a peacemaker and conciliator, believing that music is a uniting force. And with many a yarn to share with a twinkle in his eyes, one thing is for certain - you'll leave much happier than you came, probably with a copy of his 'Live' CD!

Friday 26th June 2009 - Martyn Wyndham Read

Martyn Wyndham Read

One of our most loved and respected singer/guitarists and a supreme purveyor of Australiana - folk songs of the Australian outback that MARTYN first discovered during his time working on a sheep station in the '60s. During subsequent trips he collected and learned the Old Songs directly from drovers, cane cutters and bush workers, interpreting them in his own unique style. He also embraces songs from these Isles, delivering them all in his rich voice in a performance full of warmth and wonderful humorous anecdotes. A gem!
