Friday 6th December 2013 - The Young 'Uns

The Young 'Uns

No, not a Northern Cliff Richard tribute but just about one of the best & most entertaining live acts around! SEAN COONEY, DAVID EAGLE and MICHAEL HUGHES have been on the Ram Radar for a while now, and tonight you'll see why. Ten years ago, "three really impressionable 17 year olds discovered our local folk club in Stockton-on-Tees and were completely amazed by the songs. The Greybeards said 'let's have a song from the young 'uns', and the name stuck!" They are a phenomenon, a Folk whirlwind with a show that seems chaotic but always hits the spot. Take the harmony style of The Wilsons and Coope, Boyes and Simpson, add instruments, lace with anarchic humour, then carefully brew in Teeside before unleashing on an unsuspecting world. Sean is the main songwriter, taking his inspiration from the changing stories and landscapes of his native north east. David sings and plays accordion and piano, taking the role of chief mischief-maker and antagonist. Michael plays guitar and brings a vocal style that is both subtle and powerful. These livewires know how to have a good night out and take you along with them. Musical 'Special Brew' but without the hangover!

Friday 13th December 2013 - Doug Hudson

Doug Hudson

Doug is a nutter, and proud of it. He is a natural and very funny comedian, 'very big' with his one-man show on the ex-pat circuit in far-flung places, with such classics as 'The Wild Rover' in German, Pavarotti's Nissan Dormabile and his volcanic Football Commentary in Latin! He is also an excellent guitarist, songwriter and singer with a surprising ability to write the odd serious and moving song. Aural LSD for the masses. Doug also has the perfect seasonal song 'The Twelve Drinks of Christmas' - brace yourselves! We guarantee he will have you in convulsions of laughter throughout.

Friday 20th December 2013 - Chris Newman & Maire Ni Cathasaigh - PARTY

Chris Newman & Maire Ni Cathasaigh - PARTY

We return to normality with a duo who are not only at the top of their game but are Ram institutions. As many of you will know, you will rarely hear a more exquisite and virtuosic blend of guitar and Irish harp, and tonight Chris and Maire will be delighting us with their 'Celtic Christmas Strings' show. There's something truly beautiful about harps at any time, but at Christmas their alchemy on harp and guitar creates a very special magic. This show features a breathtaking blend of traditional Irish music, swing jazz and bluegrass, along with festive favourites given a fresh voice with arrangements that are intricate, inventive, moving and beautiful. Performed in the heart-warming style characteristic of them, this will be a spellbinding treat for the season. And you can expect the usual Ram Club festive experience too, with mulled wine, local Real Ale, flavoursome nibbles, a mega-raffle and seasonal songs from sundry stalwarts. Happy Christmas!
